when and where

February 25, 2010 in Uncategorized with 11 Comments

As I mentioned in altar call, I found Jesus at an altar call. It was in 1998 at Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola, FL. Yep, I was one of those. I guess I can’t assume that everyone who comes across this blog is Christian. So, when and where did you find whatever or whoever you were looking for?

Some 30 + years ago, while at Ole Miss, I went to hear a speaker at a church I attended. Can't remember his name. Went by myself & during the altar call I felt this impulsive urge to get up & head on down! Was so active in Campus Crusade my mother thought I was in a cult. Gotta remember this is the late 70's. Then I met my husband 25 years ago & just stopped. Not believing, but being active in my walk. Life went on. Then I became addicted to pain killers. When the doo-doo hit the fan & I went to treatment, life began again. The emptiness in my heart became full. That was nearly 1000 days ago. Wow! In July I will celebrate 3 years.

In 2005 at an altar call at Table View Assembly of God. Yup, i'm one of those too.

Three days later i was hit by a bus. I was in a coma for three days, during which no-one knew if i would be able to walk or talk again. After waking up, the doctor told me i wouldn't be able to go back to school for at least another two years – this was a month before i was supposed to write my final high school exams.

But after a miraculous seven months, i had recovered fully and wrote the supplementary exams – passing with distinction (and an A-aggregate!).

Throughout my healing, i'd experienced an incredible closeness with God and although i don't remember anything from when i was in the coma, i have no doubt that the Holy Spirit was ministering to me. After coming out of the coma, i had brand new convictions that seemed to come out of nowhere – but later on i would read relevant Scripture about it and i'd be like, "Oh! Is that why i feel this way about that?"

Less of a conversion, more like having a "really good friend" for years and then something changed and we became more than just friends…

In the summer of 2003, after my freshman year of college, I had spent that year away from home for the first time. I call that year my experimental year. I had one foot in the world and one foot in the church. Before I came home, my mom had told me that she had signed me up for a missions trip to Mexico, my first one. I did not want to go.
It was once I came home from college and walked into the church and felt like everyone was looking at me, I felt horrible. I knew I had to run to God. I knew if I was actually going to go on that missions trip I couldn't go without confessing and COMPLETELY WHOLEHEARTEDLY to Christ. I spent two hours in tears and went on the trip, had a great time.
And my life has not been the same since.

PS: Jack, I had not heard about the Brownville Revival until last month when Lindell Cooley came to Charleston to lead worship at an event that with all the churches in the area.

October 20, 1996, I was in sixth grade. I was reading my old Tagalog Bible in our kitchen with kerosene lamp for company.

Feb. 8, 2003 – I had been invited to a youth rally by a new friend. Spent the whole weekend discovering this Protestant church thing (was raised "Catholic" – mostly Christmas Eve midnight mass). Drove myself to church on Sunday morning and hid in the back. My friend (who had invited me to the rally Fri/Sat) turned around at the end of the service like she knew I'd been there all along and said, "What are you doing here? Do you want to give your life to Jesus?" and I did. Had NO idea what I was getting myself into (in the best possible way). :)
