what I believe

February 3, 2010 in Church,deepness with 6 Comments

I get asked alot what I believe. So, here ya go-

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:

Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;

He descended into hell.

The third day He arose again from the dead;

He ascended into heaven,
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost;
the holy catholic church;
the communion of saints;
the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body;
and the life everlasting.

It’s not about denominations. It’s about Jesus.

    Man. I have to say it: That's Amazing…
    I mean, I really believe that God's not into religion, but He's into the heart of men. :D

    Love this. I grew up Catholic, and I'm thankful for it. I gladly repeat all of this creed except the "I believe in the holy Catholic church" part or the "one holy Catholic and Apostolic church". Instead I just say "I believe in one holy Christian church". Because God isn't into denominations.

    Hard core, Adam, hard core! Although I stated this in worship services growing up, it came to mean the most to me much later during grown-up difficult times. On those days, I declare this affirmation of the faith while visualizing putting on the armor of God, as described in Eph 6:10-18. May sound weird, but it has become my spiritual "pledge of allegiance". Sort of like when our military enlists, they swear allegiance to the Constitution of the United States…well, this is how I swear my allegiance to my King…

    I grew up Catholic as well, but I also understand that the term catholic in the Apostle's Creed is the lower case catholic meaning universal church of believers. That is all. Saying catholic is not professing a domination, but a belief that we are all one.

    "For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit." – 1 Cor 12:12-13
