lyrics

May 31, 2010 in Music with 9 Comments

There are a lot of good lyrics out there. There are also a lot of terrible lines in songs. Some people tell me they just like the beat of the song and don’t even pay attention to the lyrics, which has never made sense to me. Anyways, one of my favorite lines is “…Break my heart from what breaks yours…”. You probably know what song it’s from, but just in case you don’t, it’s from a worship song named “Hosanna”. That line really describes the relationship I ultimately want with God. I want to get to that point, folks.

So, what’s your favorite song lyrics? What do the words mean to you?

My favorite lyrics are from "Paper Hanger" by mewithoutYou. That band generally has incredible lyrics, but the line that stood out for me is: "If they ask you for the sign of the Father in you, tell them its movement, movement, movement and…repose"

The meaning for me: Physical evidence of God in our hearts, of salvation through Christ, can be seen through our "movement," or actions (though we're not saved by our actions). I like that the word "movement" is used because action is just something being done, it could be for God but it could also be because of our sinfulness, but for me "movement" gives this picture of being moved by the love that's in our hearts.

And "repose" is the most important, because it's about being still and rooted in Christ. There can be all this "movement", but without the "repose" it's way too easy to lose our focus.

Good post, sir. I love "Hosanna" too, it's a really good song and one of my favorite songs from Hillsong! And I'm with you, I hope our hearts will be in line with God's. And we know that He'll be working to bring us to that point.

    Grace and Peace,

Hosana always moves me… especially that bridge "break my heart for what breaks yours." Good call, my friend.

Otherwise, I get caught up in songs like "Beautiful Jesus," "Everlasting God," Red's "Lost", etc.
