Here are my 10 favorite songs at the moment:

If I’m in my car with no cd’s or an iPod, there is no way I’m listening to the Christian radio station longer than 3 songs. They play the same stuff from ten years ago.

My playlist has changed quite a bit from what it was just a few weeks ago. My top ten songs last month would have been a mixture of Snow Patrol, Drake and 3OH!3. This month, every one of my favorite songs are “Christian” songs. I mean, I still listen to “secular” music (whatever “secular” means), but Jesus Culture and Trip Lee have been hitting me hard lately. That’s a good thing, by the way. I like all kinds of music. If it has good music behind some good lyrics, I’m all for it, whether it be from Kim Walker or Eminem. There’s definitely a feeling I get from different types of music, though. With Kim I get an uplifting feeling and with Eminem, I get some sort of an angry feeling.

So, here’s my question for you…

Do you think Christians should only listen to “Christian” music? Oh, and what music are you listening to these days?

I don't think Christians should only listen to Christian music but I do think we need to be careful what kind of stuff we allow in our head. As a guitar player I can't help but to listen to some of the stuff I grew up on, it's not Christian but it is from a music perspective the influences that shaped my playing style and I still enjoy.

Plus too much of Christian music (not all) is just the Christian label trying to create the "safe version" of ______ instead of Christian artists being creative. Again not trying to generalize too much because I know there are some very talented Christian artists..

Lately I am listening to: Red, Skillet, Steve Fee, Lee McDerment, Steve Vai

Like with most things, I believe it depends on the person. If you know that "secular" music affects you in a negative, e.g. puts dodgy thoughts in your head or makes you feel overly aggressive, then you should stay away from those kind of songs.

If I can share one memorable personal experience:
I must admit I love dancing and listening to certain secular music. But one evening I was at a dance hall with some friends from church (including our youth pastors) and Justin Timberlake's song, "Sexyback" started playing. This was way back in the day when it first came out and it was the very first time that I had ever heard the song.

I was sitting at a table and started tapping my foot, becuase it has a really cool beat. But as it played further, I stopped, because I started getting a really heavy feeling. After about 30 seconds of the song I actually had to go outside of the club, because my ears had (literally) started burning and my stomach had started turning from the sound of the song and its lyrics.

That's never happened before or since with any other song – but I have to turn off the radio every time Sexyback starts playing.

At the moment I'm listening to the new Planetshakers, the first album our church's teen worship team released, A Fine Frenzy, mewithoutYou, Desmond and the Tutus.

(Sorry, I'm posting this comment separately, because it's unrelated to the other one :) )

I think its totally up the person, It all depends on how it effects your witness and how it effects your attitude, if you get angry or short-tempered listening to certain non-christian music, you shouldnt listen to it, if you feel tempted to use foul language because of non-christian music you shouldnt listen to it!

Even some of the christian music i listen to puts me in a bad mood and i have to be careful how often I listen to it! (although some would argue calling christian screamo like Underoath christian, i still would, its all in the lyrics) from experience i have found that the musical genre of the song/band has a much bigger effect on people than the lyrics do.

I believe we should all come to the decision of what we listen to individually as part of our own relationship with the Lord. I think too many people try to make everything in black and white, which creates a rulebook of things to live by, which creates legalism and not relationship.

That said, not everyone can handle listening to "secular" music because of the influence it has over them. Other simply choose to always listen to music that exalts the Lord. Either way, that is we all have to walk out on our own. I have no problem with listening to secular music and I split about 60/40 secular to Christian.

Now Playing For Me: Daniel Bashta, Ascend the Hill, Jesus Culture, Sean Feucht.
Anberlin, Blindside, Mutemath, Minus The Bear, Silversun Pickups, Nas, The Roots

I barely listen to any Christian music. It’s not that I think there’s something wrong with it, I just don’t find any in a style I seem to enjoy. I don’t think music is poisoning me, though some would say so. I’m a grown man, I’m not gonna go sell drugs and shoot people because 2Pac rapped about it. Of course, I don’t really listen to 2Pac, so I guess that’s not a good example.

Right now: A lot of Link Wray. Which is OK, because it’s instrumental, so the satanic lyrics won’t corrupt my mind. :)
