“Christian” and “convenient” don’t go together. Pretty much every single thing that Jesus did was out of His way. When I think of what traits a Christian should have, one of the first ones that comes to mind is being a SERVANT. To truly serve, one must humble themselves first. To do these things is not convenient at all. Nobody wants to do the dirty work, but the church was called to do it. Take people volunteering in the Atlanta flood relief project for example. These people will probably never be recognized by man but the Father recognizes it, and thats all that matters. There are so many people that need help, inside and outside of Atlanta. They might not smell right or look right, but they look awesome to Jesus. So, get out of your little church bubble and go hang out with the people who need help outside of the church. The ones that might not step inside of a church building, but would open up to a fresh meal when they are digging around in dumpsters or a bottled water when they’re thirsty. So, your potlucks, watch to see what the person next to you is going to think open eyed prayers, same seats every Sunday and feel good gossip can wait for a bit. It’s time we show God’s love to the world. We don’t get to pick and choose stuff when we become a Christian. We become the whole Jesus-loving deal. And yes, with this post I’m speaking to myself.

Absolutely! Servanthood is the foundation of Christianity in every way! Earlier this week I was thinking how freeing it is to get to the place where our main desire is to serve the Father, and I prayed this simple prayer:
"Father, if I never get a 'thank you' for serving You, it will be enough to hear you say 'Well done' when I get home!" That is a hard prayer to pray in my humanity. I love to bless and encourage, and love receiving it in return, especially from Christians. But God is asking His servers to move to higher ground and let Him be enough as we serve outside of the normal, comfortable confines of the church! Thanks for writing this article!
  • No prob. That's awesome
  • Amazing article, lots of intersting things to digest. Very informative
  • Adam, a very interesting post thanks for writing it!
  • no problem
  • One verse comes to mind: "For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." - Mark 10:45. I bet this is not a very popular verse in church today.
  • thats a good verse
  • Amen.
  • Adam, it is a great post thanks for posting it!
  • Well said, my friend. God is dealing with me on this subject and I've been putting it off(not good!) Thanks for the encouragement to get off my butt, by putting a face on people who are too easy to look the other way with.
