We had the, "Staying in bed shouting, 'Oh God!' does not constitute going to church" on our billboard too for a while. True story.
But, on a more testimony-type note, when we launched our Young Adult service on Thursday evenings (random day, i know, but our church is so splitting at the seams, we couldn't accomodate everyone on a Sunday, despite already hosting six services), we put a notice with the new service day and times on the board.
After about two months of having that board up, our Thursday-night service has gone from averaging 70 people to having 119 people last week!!!
From 0 salvations to an average of 3 a week!!
The church has agreed to give us our own separate billboard for the YA service now, based on the growth!!
How AWESOME is our God?!!?!!!
Just writing this comment has actually brought something to mind – i hope you don't mind, but i was wondering if i could put a shoutout here:
We desperately need a bigger church facility and there is a prime piece of land available – but to get it we need R8 000 000. I guess that's about US$1 000 000, give or take a few thousand.
So if anyone knows of someone who'd like to invest in what God's doing in one of the fastest-growing suburban areas in South Africa, please let me know.
Just read this crazy article about someone actually lodging a compaint with the Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa against an "offensive Christian billboard". http://bit.ly/cbQqZz
