    sin or love

    Church, Life Stuff

I grew up in a church where the pastor said what was up. If something was a sin, he would talk about it and you repented and got right with the Lord right away. But in the past five years or so, I’ve seen a shift from what Christians are saying. Instead of saying what sin is, I’ve heard them say, “Just love everybody like Jesus loves everyone”. I’m trying to figure out if this is a good or bad thing. I mean, I agree with the fact that we should love everyone, no matter what they’ve done. But at the same time, sin is sin, right? Is it a thing where Christians should just love everybody and let God deal with what sin is? Will that person just eventually turn around on their own? The only problem I have with that is, how will those people know something is a sin if we don’t tell them? Will God just tell them one day while walking down the street? This is what I’m pondering.

Should Christians call people out on their sin or just leave it alone?

This sparked a lot of interest over on twitter, so I thought I’d share it over here. With people many miles away from each other, with technology, Skype and iSight cameras, with relationships forming online, Do you think that online accountability can work?

    my life

    Life Stuff

As I do this whole blogging thing, I sometimes forget what it’s all about. You know- The actual “my life story” part. At some parts it’s awesome. These are the triumphs that we have. Take time to think about these with me. Like, the time that you won that trophy, that time you gave that presentation and nailed it, the time you set up the perfect date with your spouse, the time you achieved a specific goal that you didn’t see possible and the list goes on and on. Aside from those triumphs there are the terrible life stories. You know what I’m talking about. I’m not talking about the little bad things necessarily, but more about the huge bad things. It’s those stories about when you found out your spouse was leaving you, your sibling died, your parents died, your house burnt down, you got into a car wreck that put you in the hospital and you didn’t have medical insurance and the list goes on. That’s real life stuff right there. Every person has a unique individual story that includes the good and the bad.

There are some things that people want to share because they actually become better people for it. They want others to hear the story and actually gain something from it. I love when that happens.

Then there’s the folks who would rather not talk about it because they can’t talk about the story without losing their emotions and end up using all the tissue and then some. There’s some healing that still needs to take place and you know what- that’s perfectly ok. You’re not crazy ma’am/sir. Everyone has their own grieving cycle.

And then there’s the people who need to talk about their situation. I’m talking about those people that if they don’t tell someone about what’s going on in their lives, their chest will explode.

Most likely you and the rest of the people you know fall into one of those categories. Sometimes it takes looking around and realizing the world has tons of problems besides yours. That’s right there are more problems than yours and mine in this world. Just remember when you are feeling down there is always someone else down and discouraged and looking up from the bottom of that hole and wondering who will save them from the darkness they are in.

Always take that five minutes to LISTEN to what that other person has to say about their life. Someone always has it worse than you. Who knows… their situation will probably show you something pretty special. So, I’m listening to ya- What’s your epic story?

    when and where

    Life Stuff

As I mentioned in altar call, I found Jesus at an altar call. It was in 1998 at Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola, FL. Yep, I was one of those. I guess I can’t assume that everyone who comes across this blog is Christian. So, when and where did you find whatever or whoever you were looking for?

I’m now reading “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years” by Donald Miller and it’s making me realize how bad my memory really is. It’s challenging me to write down everything I can remember. I’m pretty much missing from age 7 until age 14. Pictures kind of help me fill in the gaps. At age 15 I start remembering more things because I was in love and it’s easy remembering those moments. Back when things were easy, not many responsibilities and summer camp. Those are some of my favorite memories. What’s your favorite memory?

You probably don’t want to talk about funerals, but I’m going to anyways. I did an exercise not too long ago where I answered the question, “Besides using the word “Christ-like”, what one word do you want others to describe you as at your funeral?” I pondered this question for Continue Reading…
