I tweeted the other day that I’m not a “Jesus fish” or a Christian bumper sticker kind of guy. I got a couple of questions on that comment, so I wanted to go in a bit more detail. Well, it’s because I’m probably not the best example all of the time and I doubt anyone reads “Jesus is Lord” on the back of a car and says to themselves, “You know what, they’re right!!!!!!!!” I guess we can do a trial run here with sticker conviction. Do the bumper stickers make you love Jesus (more)?

Mostly, I just think “you're not helping” whenever I see a Christian bumper sticker that tries to use guilt as conviction.

Adam, I am Glad that some one is asking this question. I travel all over the USA and several country's and I find that around 75% of the cars that have the Jesus bumper stickers on them are the most atrocious and rude drives. I have come to the conclusion that their car is better qualified to be Christ like then they are. Like you said, I as well am not always the best example when driving as i am human and have fits of carnality. I don't have bumper stickers because I want people blaming ME for my flaws and not Jesus.

1. They might make you more conscious of your Christianity. Driving our church van with a Scripture on the side in bold letters, for example, makes me slow down… even if it's just a little.

The lesson here is to take back the Christian label and not be so rude instead of just hiding behind no sticker and cutting people off.

2. It builds connections. More than once, someone's come up to me that either doesn't know me at all or knows me but doesn't realize I'm a Christian and as a result asks me something about Christianity or the Bible or something.

Of course, it could go the other way. Some people might not talk to you because they see the Christanese and you'd never know. Still, I think it works out better that I do.

BUT A WARNING: Please don't be the person with the “anti-” something sticker (that usually just creates barriers) or the “Christians who go to the same church as I do are the only ones who'd get this joke” sticker.

i always look at bumper stickers as a “Mobile Library” there for my reading pleasure. So, no matter what they are, I enjoy them. I'm like you, I'm not a Jesus fish or christian bumper sticker kind of guy, but it's either amusing or some do get me to thinking. My favorite one that I've seen lately, albeit not a Christian bumper sticker, said this:

“My wife says I don't listen to her…or something like that.”

LOL! I actually pulled up next to the guy at the stop light and told him that I literally laughed out loud and thanked him for his sense of humor. It was good.
