biggest twitter compliment
This is the fourth post in social media week which has actually turned out to be more like “twitter week”. But, it seems that most people’s questions have to do with twitter, so hopefully this week has helped you. After yesterday’s post, “urls” you are now ready for this one. This is about the retweet also known as “RT”, or as the title says, the biggest twitter compliment. The reason I call it that is because when someone RT’s you, their twitter followers can now see your tweet posted in their timeline. It’s maximizing your exposure and it says that they like your stuff. It’s quite a big compliment. Not only does it get your tweets out there, but it also lets more people find out about your thoughts and then hopefully turns into more followers for you. If people like your tweets that they see retweeted, they most likely will follow you in return. I know that’s what I do. Now, the reason to shorten your links in your tweets is to give the maximum amount of room possible on a tweet. This is so someone can hopefully retweet you and then in return give their followers enough room to RT you as well. You should also use short versions of words as much as possible in your tweets, but the main thing that takes up room on tweets are people’s usernames which are added to tweets that are retweeted. Here’s an example:
That number 63 in the top right corner of the box means I have that many more characters I can fit into the tweet. Remember a tweet is 140 characters or less, so you’ll need to choose your words wisely. Personally, I just try to leave as many characters possible so others will have enough space, but the twitter rule is to leave 11 characters available at least. Be back tomorrow for the last post of social media week which is entitled, “engage and update”. Any questions?
