lyrics

May 31, 2010 in 9 Comments

There are a lot of good lyrics out there. There are also a lot of terrible lines in songs. Some people tell me they just like the beat of the song and don’t even pay attention to the lyrics, which has never made sense to me. Anyways, one of my favorite lines is “…Break my heart from what breaks yours…”. You probably know what song it’s from, but just in case you don’t, it’s from a worship song named “Hosanna”. That line really describes the relationship I ultimately want with God. I want to get to that point, folks.

So, what’s your favorite song lyrics? What do the words mean to you?

Is it ever ok to lie?

May 30, 2010 in 7 Comments

I can remember as a kid I would fib a lot. I would lie about silly things. They were things that didn’t matter at all. Even as I got older I would stretch the truth to make myself look better, feel less embarrassed about things, make the story shorter so I didn’t have to go into deeper details and I would try to dodge things that I didn’t necessarily want to talk about. Looking back on it, I’m wondering if there is ever a situation that lying is ok.

What do you think?

the thing i miss

May 29, 2010 in 14 Comments

The one thing i miss about being in an old church is the purple carpet. I always wondered why churches have the weirdest colors. There are many things I miss about old time church. The hymns, choir robes, purple jackets, banners and the people playing off rhythm with tambourines. Makes me smile just thinking about it.

What’s one thing you like about church or that you miss seeing in church these days?

Pray for Amy

May 27, 2010 in 5 Comments

prayforamy1 Pray for AmyOn Sunday, May 23, Amy Wooddell suffered a stroke and underwent 7.5 hours of surgery to remove the clotting in her basil artery. Additionally they found that her right vertebral artery was torn and was repaired with a stint. She awoke responsive and could even whisper her own name. However, a few hours later her brain began to bleed resulting in an emergency procedure to relieve inner cranial pressure. On Monday, May 24 she was comatose with brain function of only 3 (normal is 15) and it was uncertain that she would survive.
But she did.
On Tuesday, May 25, Amy was considered in stable condition and brain activity began to increase (between 5-7) but was still in and out of consciousness. Inner-cranial pressure had dropped from high 20s on Sunday night down to 1 on Tuesday night. She is responding through blinking (made direct eye contact with Jonny (her husband) on Tuesday night and on Wednesday morning blinked 5 times in response to “Amy, blink a bunch of times if you want Jonny to buy you lots of diamonds” and 3 times for “I love you”). And she is now breathing on her own 8 out of 18 breaths a minute.
But she’s been unable to move her limbs. A recent MRA is showing some blood in near her brain stem which is hindering motor skill movement.
Amy is only 24 years old and has been married to Jonny for 4 months. She is also an accomplished dancer.
While we are seeing God’s healing touch on Amy, we know she has a long ways to go and any permanent damage is still unknown. We are asking for your prayers for Amy’s complete healing.

intentional

May 25, 2010 in 10 Comments

Sometimes I’m so busy living for the future, that I forget about today. I take the time to plan all these huge goals and set the future up to be bright. I probably miss out on opportunities on a daily basis that I would have seen if I would have been intentional about them. So, now I’m more intentional in looking for ways to help others each day.

I forget how important it is to make Jasmine’s day.
I forget how important is to make sure others know I care.
I forget about the kid whose dad isn’t around to play catch with them.
I forget about how important it is to just smile.
I forget that some people just need me.

People need you, too. They need you to be you.
This is what “being intentional” is to me.

What are some other examples of how all of us can be more intentional each day?

bookspilingup reading

Yes, I like books. Actually, if you ever want to get me a gift, a book is an awesome idea. icon wink reading I would rather read a good old fashioned book than an iBook on the iPad any day, because there’s nothing like turning pages. Oh, and the awesome smell of a new book is pretty amazing, too. But, that might just be me. So, in the picture above are books that I’ve purchased in the past few months, but haven’t read yet. Sorry if they’re one of your books.

Now you know what I’ll be doing for the next month or so.

So, what books are you reading these days? What books can you recommend to the rest of this community?

my relationship, my responsibility

May 19, 2010 in 13 Comments

If I do all things “Christian” ONLY in public, then it is to make myself look good. This should not be the point. It seems that character and my true relationship with Jesus is developed and molded when I’m alone with Christ. These are the times that you will never know about. If the most spiritual thing I do all day is retweet @rickwarren or @lecrae on twitter, it is again to make myself look like awesome spiritual guy. Also, that makes me a pretty bad “Christian” if that’s all I do. I need to be able to create my own tweets and writings to describe my relationship with God. I shouldn’t need other’s words to say who Jesus is in my life. Here is a challenge to you. Don’t rely on your parents, girlfriend, boyfriend, spouse or pastor for your relationship with God. Create that individual, personal relationship with Him because in the end, it’s YOUR responsibility.

Thoughts?
