Another Giveaway

February 27, 2010 in 84 Comments

The single most life changing book I’ve read wasn’t a so-called “Christian” book, but it was “Success is Not an Accident” by Tommy Newberry.  It taught me how to restructure my life for the better and live my life to the fullest. Now, it’s definitely not easy, but it’s awesome stuff. When someone asks what one book do I recommend, it is always this one. I never thought I would be that guy talking about “self-help” books, but I guess I am. So, after saying all this I’m giving away a copy of “Success is Not an Accident“. Oh, and I think jackalopekid.com is now known as the free stuff giveaway spot. This contest ends Monday at 11:59pm (Mountain Time). All you have to do to win is tell me how long you have been reading jackalopekid.com. I will randomly pick the winner. go.

when and where

February 25, 2010 in 11 Comments

As I mentioned in altar call, I found Jesus at an altar call. It was in 1998 at Brownsville Assembly of God in Pensacola, FL. Yep, I was one of those. I guess I can’t assume that everyone who comes across this blog is Christian. So, when and where did you find whatever or whoever you were looking for?

altar call

February 23, 2010 in 9 Comments

Out of everything in my Christian walk I remember most clearly the altar call where I found God. It’s an awesome thing. That “baby” Christian feeling. The altar call has always been that scary thing for people who don’t get the church deal. I mean there’s all kinds of different ways to execute it. There’s the everyone keep your eyes closed until everyone has raised their hands so you don’t embarrass anyone. Then there’s the come up front so that everyone can see the people who are worse sinners than them. Oh, and then there’s the raise your hand with everybody looking because Jesus died on the cross for you so the least you can do is lift your hand. Wow, makes me sweat just thinkin’ about it. So, is there a right way to this whole deal or does it even matter how it goes down?

church coolness

February 21, 2010 in 28 Comments

Ever since I was a kid, my family has been in church. While attending church I’ve noticed how styles have changed quite a bit. I used to think Michael W. Smith, choir robes, sweaters, long hair, Mark Lowry and glasses were the coolest things out there. Oh, and I can’t forget Carman. It seems that this just isn’t the case anymore. So, I started compiling a list of what makes church people “cool” in 2010. Here are the top 9 things I could come up with:

1. Gotta have a scarf around your neck. That goes for everybody.
2. Gotta have a pair of TOMS shoes. You say you’re helping out a kid, but we all know it’s for the coolness factor.
3. Gotta have a mac. A PC just won’t cut it.
4. Having an iPhone is a must. Mainly for reading YouVersion off of it and you look wicked holy while doing it.
5. The Fauxhawk is a must. God will not love you if you do not have one.
6. You have to be talking about the latest book you’re reading. Talking about what’s in the Bible is so yesterday.
7. You have to go to at least 2 conferences a year. You will not know what you need to know to be saved.
8. Everyone has to find a way on that stage. You better sing, play a musical instrument or something. Get to dancin’.
9. Every cool Christian must have a tattoo of some sort. Oh, and a part of that tattoo must be showing to the public. If it’s on your arm, make sure you roll up your sleeve just a tad. A cool story behind the tattoo is a must (preferably Biblical).

***I couldn’t think of #10, so maybe you can help me out.–

I’m now reading “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years” by Donald Miller and it’s making me realize how bad my memory really is. It’s challenging me to write down everything I can remember. I’m pretty much missing from age 7 until age 14. Pictures kind of help me fill in the gaps. At age 15 I start remembering more things because I was in love and it’s easy remembering those moments. Back when things were easy, not many responsibilities and summer camp. Those are some of my favorite memories. What’s your favorite memory?

When I first saw the iPad it looked awesome. From the sleekness to the software. I thought “If I love my iPhone, I am sure to love this.” Then, I saw Michael Hyatt‘s blog post about the apps that would be made for it. People came up with some pretty cool stuff over there. That made me want it even more when it comes out. Then I read some comments from people about what it didn’t have and why those were bad things. The comments went something like this:

Well, it doesn’t have a pen, it doesn’t have voice to text and well it doesn’t have a camera to do video conferencing on the go.

Then, those same people said (more…)
